FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose my own assessor after an accident in Germany?
Yes. If the accident was not your fault, you have the right to choose an independent assessor. You do not have to accept the assessor sent by the other party’s insurance company.
Who pays for the damage report?
If you were not at fault, the liability insurance of the party who caused the accident usually pays, as long as the damage is above the so-called minor damage threshold (around €750).
What is included in the report?
Repair costs, repair time, loss in market value (merkantiler Minderwert), loss of use or rental car class, and in case of a total loss the replacement value and residual value – with photos.
Is the report written in English?
The report itself is written in German, because it is used by German insurers and lawyers. I explain everything to you in English.
Do I need a lawyer?
That is your decision. If the accident was not your fault, legal fees are usually part of your damage. I can recommend traffic law firms I work with – or work with your own lawyer.
